Throughout the last two millennia
of “Christian” history, there have been several types of
theology, the most popular being
Patristic,
Scholastic,
Rationalism, Positive, Averroism and
Mystic. Early
"Christian" Apologists (perhaps mystic in form and practice) were overrun
by Patristic Theology which later yielded to Scholastic Theology,
which later fell to Mysticism. More recently a revival of Scholasticism
has occurred, now
identified as Neo-Scholasticism. All these theology models
were heavily influenced by either Platonism or Aristoteleanism
or both. In some cases, they actually adopted these Greek philosophies
in full. All the foregoing history emerged because the early
“Christian” apologists found they had no philosophy of their own
and how could they stand up to the proud pagan world and its
literature and philosophy who were ready to flaunt their
inheritance of wisdom at any moment in the face of ignorant
“Christians". What answer could they give to the “wisdom” of
Plato or Aristotle? But, alas, none was needed. (See
Commonly Held False Teachings
still held by most Protestant Churches, including Apostolic
Pentecostals).
YHVH-ology
is not a mainstream “Christian” theology model, but has
similarities to the theology and liturgy held by Messianic Jews
and
Apostolic Pentecostals in the USA and
around
the world. YHVH-ology examines and embraces the
beliefs, teachings and practices held by Rab Yahushau Mashia and
his small band of disciples from the period 30 A.D. to 100 A.D. YHVH-ology was developed by Dr. Daniel
Briggs in an attempt to further cleanse the "church" of any leftover Patristic, Scholiastic or Mystic theologies and any remnants of Normative
and Rabbinic teachings that would run contrary to the teachings
led by Rab Yahushua Mashia and his apostles. YHVH-ology
embraces the
Jewish/Gentile Covenant that was foretold by the Jewish prophets such
as Joel, Isaiah, David and others. Conversely, YHVH-ology rejects the
dialectical type method employed
by the Pharisees that was condemned by both Isaiah and Mashia
(Isaiah 28:9-10, 12-13; Matthew 15:3-9; Mark 7:9-13). YHVH-ology is
fully embraced by the
World
Christian Ministries Association, (and others in part) which has experienced
rapid growth over the past several years with much more growth
expected in the next few years ahead as
end-times
close in.
The word "Theology" is
popularly known as the science or the study of God (Theos -
transliteration) and of the relations between God, man and the
universe. However, the word Theos and Theology come from Greek
influences (Hellenism) since the word Theos is a Greek prefix
used for
each Greek deity which is not a term that Christ or the Apostles
would have used. The Messiachim (a name used by Jews to
collectively refer to the people who believe that Christ is
Messiah) would have used the name YHVH (transliteration) instead
of God and possibly Yahweh for the Tetragrammaton YHVH.
Furthermore Christ's name was actually
Yahushua,
(proper transliteration) not "Jesus" as found in most English
Bibles and the proper transliteration for Messiah (Christ) is
Mashia.
Some believe that Jesus may be an
English translation of a Greek goddess of healing, Iesos/Iaso
(transliteration) but this is not 100% certain. Some Jewish
Messiachim historians believe that it is also probably linked to
the origins of Zeus (transliteration), a Greek God (Koster, 1986
and Wiseman, 1990) but this, again, has not been substantiated. It is
also believed that the name Jehovah was given prominence by the
Vatican. It emerged by inserting the vowel points of Adonai
into the sacred Tetra gram YHVH and symbolized the ecumenicalism
of that period. (Wiseman, 1990). Therefore, the term "theology" would more accurately be
applied to the study of the Greek gods (and perhaps the gods of
other non-Jewish and non-"Christian" religions) from
whence most of these Greek translations came and not from the YHVH
of the Jews and of the Messiachim.
Thus, YHVH-ology would be
accurately described as the specialty study of the God (YHVH) of the Jews
in/by Rab Yahushua Mashia. Although it has roots in classical Judaism (or non-normative), it is not classical Judaism (Normative or
Rabbinic Judaism)
because YHVH-ology teaches that the Mosaic Covenant has
expired and that a New Covenant (Messianic) is the only way to be in
harmony with YHVH and participate in the covenants of Abraham, which was activated post death, burial and resurrection of Rab
Yahushua Mashia. This new body of Jews/Gentiles would be called the
"early church" (the Messiachim), since
they, after all, were comprised of Jews and Gentiles who believed that
the "Jew"-born Rab Yahushua was the foretold Mashia
(Christ--the anointed one). YHVH-ology is more of a
Reformed Non-Normative Judaism as led by Rab Yahushua Mashia,
ahead of its time, from the secular point of view, but distinct
in that YHVH-ology rejects
most of the Normative and the Rabbinic Judaism beliefs (as
taught) and practices since they (Normative and Rabinic Jews) continued to
embrace an outdated and expired "Jewish" Covenant
(Mosaic) rather than the new
prophesied
Covenant (Messianic) that became in force prior to the 70 AD
destruction of the Jewish temple.
YHVH-ology also rejects the theological developments
that came from the early "Christian" apologists and
the Patristic and Scholastic
theologians, including their methodologies
(the dialectical teaching in particular).
The teachings, beliefs and practices examined in YHVH-ology
emerged in between the middle of the Normative Judaism era
(and overlaps the early beginnings of Rabbinic Judaism)
and the early "Christian" apologetics era (i.e.,
between 30 A.D. and 100 A.D. +/-). This group of
Jew/Gentile believers came to be known as "Christians" but
they did not initiate
this term, the term came
from outsiders intending to insult, defame and identify this
"Jewish" splinter group
as distinct from the Normative (and later) and Rabbinic Jews.
In fact, for quite some time Rome made no distinction between
"Jews" and "Christians" (the Jewish and
Gentile followers of Rab Yahushua Mashia and his apostles), they were all Jews
in the eyes of Rome.
YHVH-ology
is, a Revelation of YHVH, his essence, existence and purpose
(will) and how that relates to or impacts on human relations
with YHVH and the universe around, which is ultimately expressed
by one main premise (see below) from which all material (organic
or inorganic) or immaterial, form, life, thought and behavior
(including action and reaction) spring forth. YHVH-ology does
not preclude nor condemn the pursuit or the study of philosophy,
nature (or natural sciences), politics, arts, history, etc., so long
as said pursuit/study does not deter one from, minimize nor
diminish the Revelation of YHVH. Even though much in the
universe (and/or nature) supports and validates this divine revelation
or conversely may seem to contradict divine Revelation, it
does not diminish it. Nor is any kind of rationalism or dialectic
needed to support or defend the “is” of YHVH. Notwithstanding,
said pursuits/studies can cloud or dissolve the divine
revelation within the heart and the mind of the
pursuer/researcher/student, if not carefully guarded, since said
pursuits are separate and distinct from the mysteries of Faith
(whether now revealed or still unknown).
As already indicated above,
YHVH-ology is comprised of one main premise, which is "By Him-For Him"
(*),
and has four relevant and associated principles. They are
delineated below, in outline form only, as follows:
The Main Premise
BY HIM – FOR HIM
Facilitated because of and by the divine energy source DIVINE LOVE In/By/Through Yahushua Mashia
(The invitation to and
participation in The Divine Culmination Path,
particularly the "Divine Reconciliation/Regeneration Phase",
begins inorganically/spiritually and will eventually display
itself
tangibly, i.e., behaviorally/organically
within human reality)
(Proof of Covenant Enjoinment,
beyond the Seal of YHVH,
is revealed spiritually and behavioral
as diagramed below)
YHVH
SELFOTHERS
(Matthew 22:38-39; John 13:35)
(1 John 3:17; 4:20-21)
There are many more principles found in the word of YHVH, but
most are part of or relate to the Main Premise of YHVH-ology and
its four associated principles. The Bible does not focus on the
non-human elements of the universe, although they are there, as
both stage props and/or proofs of the divine, if/when properly
understood, if possible, but are incidental and not necessary to
know or understand, as far as the salvation of man is concerned.
While the interest in Christianity and theology is on the rise
on many fronts, conversely, there has also been a declining
interest in the things of God (and religion) in many
industrialized nations, and for reasons not always known to
contemporary spiritual leaders. Historical religious
appeal has been partly directed by the excitation of instinctive
fear of the wrath of a tyrant (God) unhappy with the populations
of empires of the ancient world and of today, and in particular
the excitation of fear of an all powerful tyrant behind the
unknown forces of nature. Not only has this approach that
targets brute fear lost most of its force worldwide, it also
lacks the ability to elicit any directness of response.
Why? Because modern science and modern conditions of life
have taught society to meet occasions of apprehension by
critical scientific analysis of the causes and conditions of
said apprehension. Additionally, the fall of the
"Christian Political Powers" of the dark ages, who through
political and ecclesiastical power controlled subjects for
centuries by keeping them in ignorance, has also facilitated
critical analysis. Thus every presentation of God under
the aspects of POWER, CONTROL and/or JUDGMENT awakens within the
listener of both an industrialized and many non-industrialized
nations every modern instinct of critical reaction. In
other words, it would not be unreasonable to say that old
phraseology may be at variance with the psychology of the modern
civilizations.
This pervasive fact, however, need
not be looked at as all negative. This can be an OPPORTUNITY
for both personal development (via the Biblical principle of
"iron sharpeneth iron") and demonstration of true Christian
character (see the Theology of Love). Let spiritual leaders everywhere, rise to the
occasion and become more focused on the purposive ness of "pure
religion undefiled before God." Adjust the adjustable, abandon
the abandon able, and cleave to the pure unadulterated truths
and axioms that make pure religion what it is or ought to be.
Let everything that can be shaken be shaken. Discard the
dialectic findings that are not Biblically sound and condemn the
traditions of men that negate or contradict the Word of YHVH.
For example, a preacher can adjust
his/her rhetoric when preaching to the lost by saying, `God is not
interested in getting even with you, he's interested in
forgiving you!' This statement does not cause one to abandon
sacred truths. True, judgment day will come, which should be
taught to all, however, the dispensation of GRACE,
after all, is still valid for today. It is just as much a
fundamental truth as judgment is. If the message of grace
is ill received by an individual, then, in turn, preach judgment
and then "shake the dust off" and move on--the Mashia method of
evangelism.
Is this a call to compromise? Or to encourage spiritual leaders
to abandon the fundamental beliefs, YHVH-ology and doctrines they teach? To
the contrary. However, certain clichés, models, phraseologies,
and paradigms may need adjusting so that "when in Rome", the
Romans will listen to the message, understand the message AND be
intrigued by the message; when with the barbarians, speak their
language, too, reach them; all without losing the fundamental
contemplation of truth and the moral and aesthetic values of YHVH-ology, i.e., the true
beauty of holiness.
(*) Not to be confused with the
false "Logos" doctrine proposed by the early 'Christian"
apologists and adopted by the Patristic and Scholastic
theologians.
